STUDENT HOUSING SUPPORT

Finding affordable student housing can be challenging, but did you know that various financial aid options exist to help reduce your costs ? Many grants and subsidies are available—some of them lesser-known—that can significantly ease your budget. Explore this list of potential housing assistance programs you may qualify for, whether you're studying locally or abroad.

Students searching for housing can benefit from assistance with the security deposit and guarantor. The Visale guarantee, offered by Action Logement, acts as a free guarantor for students aged 18 to 30, subject to eligibility. The Avance Loca-Pass helps finance the security deposit through an interest-free loan. These schemes make it easier for students to access housing by reducing financial barriers.

Students can benefit from housing assistance to reduce the cost of their rent. The Personalized Housing Assistance (APL) is available to tenants of subsidized housing, while the Social Housing Allowance (ALS) applies to other types of housing. These aids are granted based on income conditions and are paid monthly by the Family Allowance Fund (CAF).

Other useful resources :

  • Aides au logement pour étudiants – Étudiant.gouv

Mobili-Jeune is a financial aid program designed for students in work-study programs (apprenticeship or professionalization contracts) to reduce their rent. Offered by Action Logement, it provides a monthly subsidy ranging from €10 to €100 for the entire duration of the training, subject to income conditions and eligibility. The application must be submitted within 6 months from the start of the contract.

The National Emergency Assistance Fund (FNAU) is an exceptional aid program for students facing serious and temporary financial difficulties. Managed by the CROUS, it can be provided as a one-time or annual assistance, depending on the student’s situation. The allocation is determined after a case review by a committee and is based on the applicant’s income and specific needs.

  • CROUS – Aides financières

Local Missions provide support to young people aged 16 to 25 in their professional and social integration. In Paris, they offer personalized assistance for access to employment, training, housing, and financial aid. They can also inform and guide students toward housing support programs, such as the Visale guarantee, Mobili-Jeune, or CAF assistance.

Other useful resources :

Students can submit their state scholarship application through the Student Social File (DSE) on the Mes Services Étudiants website. Managed by the CROUS, this application is typically submitted between January and May for consideration for the following academic year. The allocation depends on family income and the student’s situation. Once the scholarship notification is received, the student must forward it to their institution for validation.

EMERGENCY FINANCIAL AID FOR STUDENTS IN NEED OR IN PRECARIOUS SITUATIONS

In the event of significant financial challenges, such as losing accommodation or being unable to pay rent, emergency financial support may be available through the National Emergency Assistance Fund (FNAU), offering up to €5,000 in assistance.

Two types of support are offered: a one-time payment and an annual grant. If you are facing financial difficulties, we recommend reaching out to your local CROUS (Centre Régional des Œuvres Universitaires et Scolaires) to apply for these funds.

Additionally, if financial or medical issues are impacting your studies, contact your CROUS for a personal consultation to explore further options.
